UNIT 3: How can biodiversity and development be sustained?

Threats to biodiversity

ACTIVITY 1

Human and non-human threats to biodiversity including: creation and isolation of small populations through habitat loss and over exploitation .

ACTIVITY 2

Loss of pollinators, dispersal agents, symbionts that affect reproduction  and persistence of species.

ACTIVITY 3

Disease - understand what diseases are affecting wildlife.

ACTIVITY 4

Introduced species that compete for habitat and food.

ACTIVITY 5

Climate change.

In this activity, students can deepen the understanding of climate change in the world. In these maps, students will learn what is happening in each area.

Protection and restoration of biodiversity

ACTIVITY 1

Strategies for  maintaining and growing populations that also build species resilience  to changes in the environment.

ACTIVITY 2

Values systems that influence decision-making processes: anthropocentrism, biocentrism, ecocentrism and technocentrism.
