There are numerous threats to native wildlife species, however, humans and urban sprawl play a big part in the vulnerability of Victorian biodiversity. Here you will be investigating any patterns from Wildlife Victorias data sheets to find out if this is related to urbanisation or if its a natural occurrence. Your activity will be presented in a Strategic Action Plan, a document to commence change.

ACTIVITY: Choose a data set from the following links; this may be the data set closest to your local area or one of personal preference. Using the data set, identify one species of interest.

Using the data sheets and external resources, such as those listed below, determine if there are any patterns related to any of the species conflicts. Justify your analysis in relation to human threats and habitat loss and investigate legislation currently in place to prevent these conflicts. What prevention methods could be put in place to help this species? You may want to use the data sheet to create a graph depicting any patterns. (HINT: when creating a graph from the provided data sheets it may help to delete unneeded columns or rows, or only select required data and paste onto a new worksheet on excel.)

Present your findings in a Strategic Action Plan.

What is a Strategic Action Plan?

A document containing information about strategies and actions that can create change to an identified target. This type of document would be sent to the Government to implement change and action through legislation or Government action. In this activity you will be submitting your Strategic Action Plan to the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning with reasons why prevention methods you’ve come up with should be implemented.
